UPDATE AND FAQs ON NEW CERTIFICATIONS
As you know, IMSA is in the process of creating all new certifications for the Traffic and Public Safety fields. The first five certifications will roll out very soon:
- IMSA Traffic Signal Technician I
· IMSA Traffic Signal Field Technician II
· IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician
· IMSA Signs and Pavement Markings Technician I
· IMSA Roadway Lighting Technician I
During a recent Section Leadership Update it was announced that the new certifications will be available in early March. Please keep checking our website for more updates.
As we gear up for the new certifications, we will be offering private classes as we have in the past. If you are interested, please email me at jwhoffman54@gmail.com and we will make arrangements. Thank you for your continued support in Public Safety.

FAQs
1. What new certifications will be rolled out first and when will they be available?
The following certifications will launch March 2023:
IMSA Traffic Signal Technician I
IMSA Traffic Signal Field Technician II
IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician
IMSA Signs and Pavement Markings Technician I
IMSA Roadway Lighting Technician I
2. Will additional certifications be offered?
Yes. Plans are underway for IMSA Traffic Signal Senior Field Technician III, IMSA Signs & Pavement Markings Technician II, IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector, IMSA Traffic Signal Construction Technician II and tentatively IMSA Transportation Center System Specialist I. IMSA will publish information additional information as it becomes available.
3. What type of support materials, manuals etc. will be offered with the new certifications?
That is still being determined and updates will be posted as they become available. Be sure and check out the IMSA Blog under Resources on the IMSA website.
4. Are certification renewals impacted by the new certification rollout?
No, renewals are dependent on completing the 16 hours of continuing education within three years prior to the certification expiration date. Fiber Optics requires 8 hours of continuing education and Work Zone certification renewal requires 4 hours.
5. What if I do not have the required number of continuing education hours for renewal?
