Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Signal Electrician. As a Signal Electrician for WCRC you would provide support and guidance to signal technicians with the installation, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of electrical and electrical signal equipment.

Schedule

  • Winter schedule: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with potential for overtime. May be required to work “double shifts for up to 16 hours in winter storm events.
  • Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with potential for overtime.
  • Required to be on call 24 hours, 7 days/week due to weather conditions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Installs, maintains and operates all traffic control devices and auxiliary equipment as needed.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses electrical and electronic equipment, making the necessary repairs or referrals to assure proper operation.
  • Assists with the development, installation, inspection and estimation of cost of new traffic signals and/or modernization of existing traffic signals.
  • Works with other Road Commission employees in electrical/electronic maintenance and/or signal work.
  • Investigates complaints regarding traffic signals.
  • Reads and interprets prints and schematics necessary to the performance of his/her duties; draw wiring and location diagrams as needed.
  • Assists the Signal Operations Engineer with training on projects, equipment, and traffic signal software.
  • Maintains detailed records and reports of repair and maintenance work as required.
  • Secures necessary cable checks from the proper authorities and identify Road Commission facilities as requested.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical traffic control devices.
  • Completion of an accredited electrical or electronic trade program or its equivalent.
  • A valid Michigan Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
