This position will report to the Technical Services Manager and the ITS Director.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities The ITS and Traffic signal technician is responsible for maintaining technical knowledge on products and services offered by AM signal and its partners, travel to job sites, installation and configuration of equipment, troubleshooting and documenting issues, maintaining documentation on installation activities, initiating and tracking repair requests, recurring issues with equipment or procedures, and assisting with product testing and research. This position requires frequent regional and occasional national travel and is largely self-sufficient. When not travelling or on job sites, the technician will be remotely working from their home or their preferred shared working space. Excellent self-motivation, self-discipline, time and schedule management, adherence to schedules, and maintaining a balanced workload are all additional critical skills. · Extensive travel to job sites to perform job duties, including utilization of a company vehicle to drive to regional projects, flying on commercial airlines, hotel stays, etc. This position will primarily require travel to California, Oregon, and Washington. Occasional travel to other states may be required. · Typical work schedules are Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm (local time) but additional hours may be required for project work or travel. · Creation and maintenance of own schedules, including any installations, repairs, meetings, or other items. Ensuring there are no overlaps in booking of project-related work, missed installations, etc. Reporting of scheduling issues, needs, conflicts, etc. to management. · Maintain communication with management regarding scheduling, task assignments, concerns, etc. including bi-weekly check-ins, all hands meetings, and all staff meetings. · Coordinate any significant status and schedule changes for assigned projects with the assigned project manager. · Attend recurring project related meetings and provide information as needed. · Thoroughly understand products being installed, installation procedures, and project scope prior to arriving on site. · Communicate with the project manager to ensure that all installation prerequisites have been met prior to arranging travel to a job site. · Prepare all necessary documentation, products, software, and equipment as required by each individual project prior to arriving on site. · Field Installation of Equipment – Duties while on-site include termination of cabling (network cables and connectors, connections to/from equipment components), mounting and securely fastening rack mounted/din rail mounted hardware, installation of any detection equipment housed in the signal or ITS cabinet, configuration and calibration of equipment, including: detection cameras (programming associated detection zones, assignment of detection zones to signal phases, etc.), pedestrian call push button hardware, Uninterruptible Power Supplies/Battery Backup Units, and Point to Point or Collaborator Radios), updating firmware and software, testing installed components for proper functionality, and troubleshooting issues or failures. · Provide and/or assist with ensuring product training for customer agencies or other contractors is completed prior to project completion. · Verify all required tasks are completed prior to departing from a job site. Completion of a checklist or task list may be required. · Troubleshooting equipment issues and notating any observable findings, patterns, or trends and notifying management of any larger concerns. · Identification of repeat issues such as equipment failures, incompatibilities with certain products or hardware, and report such issues to management, preferably with technical information on what may be causing said issues. · Identify areas of opportunity for new or upgraded equipment at job sites or in product line offerings and share with sales reps and technical management. · RMAs (Equipment Repairs) – Diagnose issues with equipment causing the need for repair, provide detailed technical documentation of issues to the RMA team, and maintain a historical log of issues and remedies. · Initiate RMA requests for needs identified on your projects; follow up on the statuses of your RMA requests. · Updating project records with tasks performed, repairs initiated, issues noted, etc. · Utilization of any down time to effectively continue education on new products or changes to existing products, further understanding of new or existing applicable technologies, follow up on open projects, and plan for upcoming projects. · Assisting with Product Research and Development as requested. · Adherence at all times to all company, partner, customer (including government agency) requirements regarding network access, equipment access, site access, and security requirements. · Checking and answering company e-mail accounts, assigned phone, text messages, etc. on a frequent basis. · Must adhere to all safety rules and regulations required by law, by AM Signal, and by agencies that oversee work done under contract. Maintaining professionalism · Presenting a positive attitude when interacting with clients, customers, and employees. · Maintaining clean and presentable clothing free of rips, tears, stains, etc., · Maintaining a clean vehicle to include exterior appearance and interior appearance, ensuring vehicles are properly maintained such as having oil changed, tires replaced, light bulbs replaced, repairs performed, etc. · Ensuring tools and safety equipment are clean, well maintained, and complete in order to present a professional image as well as minimize delays or issues related to improper loadouts or broken/missing tools. · Use of professional communication with co-workers, customers, partners, other contractors on job sites, management, etc. · Presentation of a positive representation of AM Signal and its suppliers or partners, including not disparaging AM Signal or its partners’ products, services, or personnel. · Adherence to punctuality is highly critical to providing our customers with the products and services sold to them and having products installed and operational within the timeframe promised. · Ensuring customer satisfaction by following up after installation or project completion. · Taking the initiative to offer assistance to co-workers who may be overwhelmed, to assist with balancing workloads.
