The City of Napa is currently seeking an Engineering Assistant to join our Transportation Engineering Division in the Public Works Department. In this role, you will have the chance to optimize traffic signals and contribute to the safety and efficiency of our community.

As an Engineering Assistant, you will be responsible for analyzing, programming, and updating the City’s traffic signal system. Your expertise and support will be critical in ensuring flawless traffic operations for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. We are looking for a candidate with a proven track record in traffic signals or transportation.

Ideal candidates for the Engineering Assistant role will have shown success in demonstrating the following competencies:

• Technical Knowledge and Skill – knowledge of principles and practices of traffic engineering; keeping up with current developments and trends in areas related to the position of Engineering
Assistant; maintains a solid understanding of policies and procedures; keeps up with current developments and trends in traffic operations.
• Technology Savy – Using one’s practical knowledge and understanding of recent technology tools, solutions, and trends to Improve work results, solve work problems, and take advantage of new business opportunities.
• Managing Work – Effectively handling one’s time and resources to ensure that work is completed efficiently.
• Quality Orientation – Accomplishing tasks by considering all areas Involved, no matter how detailed; showing concern for all aspects of the job; accurately checking processes and tasks; being watchful over a period of time.
• Project Management – Designs, implements, and manages ongoing projects and directs the related resources and activities to successful completion.
• Emotional Intelligence – Establishing and sustaining trusting relationships by accurately perceiving and interpreting own and others’ emotions and behavior: using insights to effectively calibrate own responses so that one’s behavior matches one’s values and delivers intended results.
