San Jose Airport Set to Receive OPTIPARK® Wayfinding Solution
Reducing Airport Area Congestion and Emissions with McCain, Inc.
SAN DIEGO, California, August 25, 2020 – The San Jose Airport (SJC) is unique in that the airport is in the heart of Silicon Valley. SJC serves a large area, with multiple route options, and getting to the airport in a cost and time-efficient way has been challenging travelers for a long time. But good news is on the way for San Jose!
McCain, Inc., a leader in the supply of Intelligent Transportation Solutions (ITS) for safety and mobility, was awarded a contract by SKIDATA to provide the company’s integrated urban wayfinding solution, OPTIPARK® Wayfinding. This innovative solution will reduce traffic congestion in San Jose by sharing parking data to assist drivers in finding available parking more efficiently.
OPTIPARK Wayfinding integrates real-time data from any parking access and revenue control system (PARCS) provider, parking operator, valet system, or parking guidance system via one central software platform. All of this parking information can be displayed on McCain’s vibrant large full color Variable Messing Signs (VMS) powered by SWARCO technology, strategically placed throughout the airport region. It is a particularly appropriate solution for the San Jose Airport where real-time information on available spaces and dynamic parking pricing guides drivers to parking locations, reduces congestion and emissions, and maximizes parking utilization.
Providing drivers with visual information along their route enables airport visitors to make timelier, and often safer, decisions. OPTIPARK Wayfinding enables data to be posted on variable message signs along the route to the airport, as well as share parking information digitally via websites or smart phone apps. With both visual and digital information options, the system is appealing to the full gamut of user demographics. Utilizing OPTIPARK central software, parking facility operators can remotely monitor VMS, detectors, and car park information from one central system. The easy-to-use interface and accessibility via a web browser makes OPTIPARK a simple and effective way to manage traffic. As with other McCain solutions, OPTIPARK is scalable and can operate independently or be fully integrated into a community-wide traffic system.
According to McCain Chief Operating Officer, Greg McKhann, “We believe that deployment of the OPTIPARK Wayfinding is a win for the airport, the traveler and the environment. OPTIPARK will make it much easier to find airport parking, thereby minimizing the time spent looking for parking and reducing emissions as well.”
Installation of the OPTIPARK Wayfinding system is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2020, incorporating McCain’s full-color VMS at strategic locations. In keeping with McCain’s commitment to green technology and efficiency, the VMS signs require only 5% of the power-draw of traditional equipment and use SWARCO’s precision-optic lenses for a display of unprecedented clarity and brightness.
Michael Driscoll, Manager, McCain Parking Business Unit said “We’re thrilled to partner again with a major PARCS provider and bring a better parking experience to millions of drivers, travelers, and employees. Optipark Wayfinding and Parking Guidance can integrate seamlessly with any PARCS technology to provide real-time information on available parking spaces, dynamic pricing and guide drivers to parking locations.”
