We’re looking for your creative technical session proposals for IMSA’s 2014 Annual Conference in Schaumburg, IL. We encourage you to submit your proposal regardless of session type or length. We’re looking for cutting edge topics, and the latest trends in public safety technology.

We seek sessions in several technical and operational areas. Do you offer a new approach or a fresh idea? Do you have technology solutions for an old problem? Have you discovered a breakthrough solution or more efficient way to do things?

The following are the general categories and suggested topics that we are seeking, but you are encouraged to propose other topics of your choice:

Submitting Your Proposal

All technical session proposals for 2014 must be submitted electronically using our on-line submission form.  IMSA is unable to accept technical session proposals that are not submitted using the on-line form.  You will find the link to the form at the end of this announcement. We suggest that you develop your submission proposal in Word to save your work, and then copy and paste the information into the online form. The online form does not have spell check so editing your information in advance and then copying and pasting it will ensure greater accuracy.


You will be asked to read and agree to the IMSA Annual Conference Technical Session Presentation Agreement which is available here. The acknowledgement of your reading and agreeing to the requirements is a part of the on-line session submittal form.

If your session is selected for presentation you will be asked to provide the following:

  • Handout outlining the subject matter from your session including session information that attendees will be able to take back home and use in their organizations. IMSA will duplicate your handouts and bring them to your session for you. Information on how to submit your handout information will be provided in your session confirmation letter.
  • An Engaging Session in which you interact with the audience to create a “networking” session rather than a lecture.

  • A Clear Message. Be sure that your session title and description matches the message you will be delivering.

  • A true Technical Session on the subject matter you proposed. PLEASE NOTE: Sales pitches and product specific presentations are not allowed.

  • Adherence to Deadlines set by IMSA. It is important for you to respond in a timely manner to all correspondence regarding your session. The items requested from you will assist the IMSA conference staff in preparing for your session.

Selection Process

Submit your session proposal by January 24, 2014.  Each submission will be reviewed by a work group consisting of members and staff. You will be notified in March 2014 of the status of your submission.

Upon acceptance of your proposal by IMSA you will receive a written confirmation containing the date/time of your presentation and complete information for speakers. You will be asked to provide a short biography to be used in your introduction.

IMSA may modify the session title and description to fit into our marketing style and format for the purpose of the conference brochure, website and onsite program.

What to Expect at the Conference

Each technical session room will be set with a podium, a microphone, LCD projector and a screen. The room will be set up one hour prior to each technical session, however in some cases previous sessions may be ending as you are beginning. If you are utilizing a PowerPoint presentation, you must provide your own laptop. If you will require additional audio visual equipment you must coordinate your request with IMSA well in advance of your presentation.

Please keep the time of your sessions in mind when developing your presentation and allow ample time (approximately 10–15 minutes) for questions and answers. Once your session has concluded, please be respectful of the next speaker and quickly exit the session room. If you’d like to continue conversations with attendees, please do so outside the room.

Registration and Badge Credentials

All confirmed speakers will be registered for the conference by IMSA staff. Your presenter registration will allow access to the IMSA exhibit hall, Sunday night exhibit opening, Tuesday luncheon and all technical sessions. It WILL NOT allow access to other conference events that require a ticket.

Once your session has been confirmed you should book your hotel on-line by visiting the IMSA Web site at www.IMSAsafety.org and clicking on the 2014 Annual Conference & School link. IMSA does not reimburse hotel or travel expenses for technical session speakers.
